In the early 1980s I was on the dole, making a little money busking with my concertina, singing folk songs outside a shop in Minster Gates called Alpha Nova.
Little did I know that a few years later, I would start up a business called Shared Earth in Goodramgate, and that in 1992 it moved to this very shop. Now, I work on the second floor, as MD of Shared Earth, which has become the largest distributor of recycled and sustainable products in UK, indeed in Europe, with its key message being to create a fairer, more sustainable world.
I look back on those days and think: every one of us can change our lives, and change the world for the better too.
