It was the long hot summer of 1976. There was a fair on the Knavesmire. Music was playing loudly over by the dodgem cars and the waltzers. I remember tapping my foot to Rock the Boat by the Hues Corporation. It was hot, it was sweaty, it was exciting.
A girl slightly older than me caught my eye. We exchanged glances. I plucked up courage to talk to her and she giggled, took my hand, and led me around the back of the rides. She leaned in and I felt her tongue in my mouth. I went home later thinking ‘that was my very first proper kiss’.
I’ve never forgotten it.
